Fall 2009
Well, I remembered the log in to this blog, so that must mean it’s still alive.
The past few weekends, particularly this one, have been a flurry of activity. We’ve taken a bunch of fun pics to share.
Here’s what’s been going on and what this link of pics will show you:
- Ft. Belvoir Oktoberfest
- Football “practice”
- Baltimore train museum with friend Bradley
- Apple pickin’ with friend Balin
*** NOTE — the first thing you may notice is Trevor’s new glasses. Well, the frames aren’t new but the lenses are. And they’re TRANSITION lenses, like the kind that turn from regular glasses to sunglasses. yes, our son is 3 and has prescription sunglasses. They were FREE, so we thought we’d try them. They haven’t changed color so much in this thumbnail, but you’ll see — they’re pretty funny.

Where have we been?
So it’s been so long since I’ve posted on here that WordPress has changed the whole site around. Anyhoo…I’m uploading some pics in the background. Let me see if I can remember what they are from :
First, we on a trip to NYC way back in Sept to visit Aaron’s sister. Much fun!

Next, there are a few pics from October – Trevor was a baseball player for Halloween. He claimed he wanted to be a birthday cake (??) but wasn’t too disappointed as I explained that mom doesn’t have the time to be that crafty and sorry but you’re going to be a bball player b/c the jersey was on sale for 5 bucks at target. Figure it’s the last year I’ll get away with that. We went to a neighborhood across the way from ours that I learned was having a “pre-school friendly” trick or treat, meaning they were giving out healthy treats and little toy trinkets instead of candy. It was really fun and didn’t take long for Trevor to get the hang of “trick or treak” and “thank you”.
There are also a few pictures from our trip to Charlottesville. Aaron went to the Clemson game while Trevor and I took a nap and went to the local children’s museum. My impression of UVA was – buncha old buildings. Aaron’s: where’s the rest of their staduim.

Next is Christmas time, to include the squadron Christmas party where Trev happily sat on Santa’s lap.

Finally, we have last weekend’s activities, which included Trevor’s first trip to the bowling alley and the deluxe air & space museum out at Dulles. Trevor liked bowling for the most part. The pics aren’t that great so don’t get excited. He was more interested in pretending to bowl like us than actually bowling. With assistance from the bumpers that popped up in the gutters on his turn, he gave mom a run for her money scorewise.
The Air & Space museum was cool. Trev was more interested in running up the ramps than looking at the planes. That was ok though since there weren’t many people there.

So that’s it for the pics. In other news, Trevor had his 2nd dentist appointment this week. I was more worked up about it than he was. I was stunned at what a good boy he was. They even took xrays — here Trev, sit in that chair with a heavy apron and bite this piece of cardboard and hold still. No prob!! They polished his teeth, gave him a flouride treatment, and taught him to use that spit-sucker-outer. And during it all Trevor just happily obliged. I was amazed and proud.
That’s about it for now. See you in a few months. Just kidding. Maybe.
pretend play
Trevor woke up from his nap yesterday and called me into his room. He was standing facing the window and had laid Mr. Bear on the window sill and was figeting with him. (His crib’s by the window, you know.)
“Bear on chainee taybow,” he says, telling me the bear’s on the changing table.
“Oh, I see, you’re changing his diaper?” I say.
“Yes,” he replies and adds, “he got poopy.”
I laugh.
“Need wipes,” Trevor says.
I laugh harder, and give him some pretend wipes from my pocket.
“Tank you,” he says.
Brown Bear
Took forever for this to upload. Hope it works…
It’s Boo reading Brown Bear. Sort of. This is actually take 2 using our regular camera. We used the video camera for Take 1. He did a better job of “reading” on that one, but this one is probably funnier (and smaller) and since I know how to get it off the camera, it’s the one you’re seeing…
tennis anyone
Last weekend we went to the Legg Mason Tennis Classic at Rock Creek Park. It’s part of the “road to the US Open” tour. Biggest names in it this year are Roddick (last year’s champ), Safin, and Haas, none of whom we saw, but whatever. They had this super family deal goin’ – 4 tix, 4 meal vouchers, and a program, all for 20 bucks. Such a steal! We paid more for parking and 2 beers. Anyway, they had tennis stuff set up for the kids and some random games. Trevor was a bit too small for most of it but had fun anyway. The highlight for him was the Washington Capitals (hockey) mascot, Slapshot. He’s a bird. We didn’t get a picture of Trevor with him, which is too bad since all Trevor could say all day was “where birdie at?”
We watched about 30 minutes of the actual tennis match. Turns out singing the ABCs at high volume is not well received at a tennis match. We were better suited for the practice rounds. It was fun tho’!

Here’s the latest
Pics from the past couple of weekends are linked below.
Other funny things -
- Trevor sings Jingle Bells – guess they’re learning it at school. “Jingo beows jingo beows … HEY!”
- The novelty of pee peeing in the potty is out. He’s done it a couple more times since, but mostly I think b/c he likes seeing mom go bananas over it. Not so much b/c he wants to be clean and not wear diapers.
- Somewhere along the way I exposed Trevor to Thomas the train on TV. Now he’s addicted. Luckily the episodes are only like 5 min.
- Swimming lessons are going well. He loves jumping in!
- This weekend we were playing in the front yard. Mommy and Daddy were throwing the frisbee and kicking the ball with Trevor. Trevor decided he wanted to go for a wagon ride. Mommy and Daddy wanted to keep throwing the frisbee. Trevor told us we had 4 more minutes and it was time to put the toys away. Funny!
- Trevor reads Brown Bear Brown Bear to us. Not the other way around. He names all the children for kids in his class — “dat Jerry, dis one abby grace…”
- Trevor makes “birday cakes” out of sand or woodchips or whatever and sings happy birthday to himself.
- i’m sure there are more funnier things, but that’s all i got for now…

Potty time
Today Trevor asked to pee pee on the potty. I sat him there. He told me “good BYE” – my cue to go away, which I did. I returned a bit later and was shocked to discover he actually pee peed in the potty!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Like a measurable amount, not just drops. I freaked it out with excitement and praise. We had a few more good potty-sitting sessions throughout the day, but no successful pees. We’ll try again tomorrow with our training pants and see if he’s really serious or not. I’m not getting my hopes up. But who knows – this could be my next big accomplishment (next to the cuke below).
One other thing – Trevor sometimes says certain words with a southern accent. Dont’ know where it comes from but it’s funny. Today he said nap like “nay-ip”. He tripped a fell — or “fay-ohl”. There was another word he said that struck me as hickish, but now that I’m writing this, I can’t think of it. Anyway …
My fluke cuke?
This is among the most astonishing accomplishments I’ve made of late. This thing grew in my backyard! The funniest thing is that the first day I noticed it was the day these pictures were taken. It grew nestled behind a bush close to the ground, so I never noticed it. I was a little frightened at first actually. Trevor likes cucumber. He mowed through 1/2 of it at dinner, dipping it in Heinz 57. ?? don’t ask me…

Beachin’ it
We went to Charleston for the 4th. Finally getting around to posting pics. Trevor enjoyed the beach (Folly). He tapped out on the ocean the first day and wasn’t too keen on it after that. More sand than imaginable was a hit though, but trying to catch the birds trumped sand castle building. Jumping in the pool a go-jillion times was fun too. I don’t think we caught anything from the sketch pool so that’s a plus.
